The trainer saves the honor for Idéfix
The second match for the first team started right on schedule at 19.30 pm. Our opponents was the first team of Argus from Harkstede. With ex-major league player Erik van der Greft, sportmanlike Gert Storteboom and fighter Norbert Schuur. Selected for Idéfix were headman Nishanth Nandakumar, captain Eelke Cramer and talented Arne Hommes. Knowing that Argus can take a long time during matches we directly started on two tables.
Many matches ended up quickly with a loss for Idéfix, i’m not going in detail..
The next couple matches were tight ones. Started with Eelke versus Norbert: 11-4, 11-13, 11-13, 11-5 and 11-13. The reporters called Norbert a true fighter and that is not for no reason. In the last game Norbert was down with 10-2 and Eelke was on his way to kill te match, but the fighter inside Norbert would not let Eelke win, even on 11-10 behind Norbert won the match with 11-13, letting Eelke almost in tears.
Another tight match was Arne versus Norbert: 11-7, 15-17, 5-11, 13-11 and 6-11. With nice rallys and nice finishing shots it was a great game to watch but Arne had to congratulate Norbert in the end.
It was up to Nishanth to show up and as headman, now ex-headman so you can already guess the result. But without no fight he showed a great match versus Gert: 7-11, 11-5, 3-11, 12-10 and 9-11.
In the meanwhile Idéfix was down 0 to 9…
The chance to save the honor for Idéfix was in privilege by Eelke, he had to win against Gert. 5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 9-11 and…
The coaching was clear: you just got to give it your all, and show Gert he does not mess with Idéfix. Eelke thought: I can’t give up, everyone’s counting on me.
Resulting in a 11-5 win in the final game!
At the end the trainer saved the honor. With three points out of two matches there is only one advice:
The only way to get better is to get out there and keep training
