Yesterday we welcomed the first team from Oliemolen in our hall. Koichi, Ubbi and Rebecca were nominated for the singles and Jacco supported us in the double. We didn’t start well and faced a 1-3 backlog after the first 4 matches.
Ubbi didn’t find his game against Tinus Pijpstra at all and Rebecca had a very similar experience against Frans de Vries, not being able to warm up fast enough and to adjust her game properly. In the end she lost in the 5th set after being in the leading position. Koichi was the one who kept us in game with a win over Koen van Kammen. With 3 victories out of 3 matches he was the best player of the evening and showed that all the effort he put in practice pays off. However, Jacco and Rebecca were not able to take this boost along in the double. In the end they made too many “easy” mistakes and the strategy just to play on the other half of the table probably doesn’t work at this level.
The rest of the story can be told pretty quickly: as already mentioned, Koichi also won the 2 remaining games and Rebecca and Ubbi also contributed 2 victories each, even though, they became very frustrated every now and then due to very unpredictable balls from the opponents side. Especially, Ubbi demonstrated his fighting spirit in a tight last match against Frans.
Altogether, we completed this match with a final score of 7-3 and are looking forward to our next match against Argus on Friday.
